On the 2nd day of Christmas break...

I'll admit.  I've fallen behind.  As usual.

We've done some fun things over the past few days, so I hope to get caught up today and tomorrow.  Before Christmas.

On the 2nd day of Christmas break...

We started a new tradition of taking the...

DOLLAR TREE Challenge!

My children will tell you that this is their new favorite tradition.
Here's how it works:

Each person gets $6 (since there are only three people in our family).
Each person is responsible for buying 3 items for the other 2 people in the family.
But the catch is that they must explain why they bought those items...so no buying your sister something you know she'll hate just so that you can have it.
Each person is required to really think about the other person and what they might like.

It was so fun!  We snuck around the store like spies trying not to let the others see what we had in our baskets.

When we returned home, we each hid our sacks behind us and took turns presenting our gift to the other person AND explaining the reasoning behind it.  You would have thought it was Christmas morning and we were opening everything we had asked for.

So for $18 (well, I cheated a little and bought them each 4 things), we came away with a fun experience of thinking of others and a whole bunch of loot!

Here are a few of the fun things we ended up with:

Caleb: a magnifying glass, a pretend bowie knife (as evidenced in the picture, it was a hit), an air horn (thank you so much, Grace <--sarcasm), and an unbreakable, untearable roll of toilet paper.

Grace: Sour Patch kids (her fave), Hot Cheetos (another favorite), her own "design your own" travel mug (so she won't always steal mine :), and a celebrity word search book with Bieber on the cover.  Score!

Me:  bubble gum, chocolately strawberry lotion (they know me so well), a loofah for the shower, and some raspberry lemonade chapstick that they knew I love!

It was a great new tradition that I know we will continue.  And this last picture needs some explaining...My son has decided that photo bombing is his new hobby, but he's not very good at it.  So we premeditated the photo bomb seen above...which kind of defeats the purpose,  But I absolutely love this picture.

Oh, and my daughter wants you to know that she is VERY excited about Fred Savage in her word search book.  And let's go watch some more episodes of the Wonder Years!
